People may choose to speak to a counsellor because they feel they cannot speak to their other friends or family about such personal issues, or they may simply wish to speak to a professional with privacy .These discussions are done in a professional and confidential setting, with a professional counsellor, over a period of time.
The professional counsellor is not there to tell what to do!
Instead, the counsellor will hear about what's bothering the person and identify the root causes of the issue and specific ways of thinking. The counsellor will offer practical advice, create a plan of action to either help reconcile the issues, or help find ways of coping and new ways of thinking /self management.
